NO KINGS South Bay LA
NO KINGS South Bay LA
2025-06-14 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Torrance City Hall, 3031 Torrance Blvd, Torrance, CA, 90503
June 14, 1775 marked the birth of the U.S. Army—a force created to stand against tyranny and unchecked power. Now, 250 years later, that legacy is being distorted. President Donald Trump plans to commemorate the Army’s anniversary with a taxpayer-funded military parade in Washington, D.C.—on his own birthday. This **$45 million spectacle** isn’t just about the military; it’s about glorifying one man.
Trump has made flirtatious comments about seeking a third term, hinting at constitutional workarounds, though he officially claims he’ll be a two-term president. Regardless, the ambition is clear—and dangerous. This isn’t how democracies are supposed to work. **On June 14th, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t—to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings.** NO KINGS is a National Day of Action and mass mobilization. Check out nokings.org for more information.
His administration continues to dismantle democratic norms:
- Immigration authorities have fast-tracked deportations, in some cases defying due process protections and alarming rights groups
- Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has launched an unfounded investigation into autism’s causes, reviving debunked theories linking it to vaccines—causing distress among scientists and disability advocates
- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) programs are under attack. For example, the NIH has withheld medical research funding for universities if they do not dismantle their DEIA initiatives.
- Institutions like Columbia University and Harvard have faced federal funding cuts and pressure to suppress campus protests, raising serious concerns about free speech and academic freedom.
- Trump’s proposed budget slashes education, Medicare, and Medicaid—gutting essential services while greenlighting a vanity parade.
**South Bay LA** stands for truth over theatrics. Every peaceful protest is a defense of democracy and dignity. If you believe Trump has gone too far, this movement is for you. Join the South Bay community's rebuttal to Trump's show of undesired authoritarian power. Show that American pride is rooted in diversity, equity, inclusion—and the fundamental belief that people with disabilities are not broken, but that there is ability in every disability.
🚨**On Saturday, June 14th we are rallying at Torrance City Hall with a clear message: One Nation, Indivisible with Truth and Justice for All. #NoKings** 🚨
_**A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.**_
How to prepare:
Thank you for signing up! Form a carpool and invite your friends and family so we can demonstrate together. Dress code is bright and colorful. Bring reusable US flags, pride flags and protest signs. **Remember to bring water, snacks, sunblock, meds and comfortable shoes.**
Please remember:
- Stay on the grass and off the streets! Do not block sidewalks and driveways. Do not step into streets to harass Teslas or Cybertrucks.
- Do not display fascist symbols unaltered. Swastikas must be crossed out or marked with a “no” symbol.
- **Selling items (buttons, shirts, hats, etc) is unauthorized per city regulations.**
📢 How to Prepare for Your Event:
✅ Bring signs or props → Make your message visible! (Ideas: “NO KINGS IN AMERICA!”, “THE PEOPLE UNITED”, “NOT YOUR PIGGYBANK!”, “Strength in diversity, Power in Unity”, “Defend checks and balances”, “Respect Branches of Government”, “There is ability in every disability”, “Stand up for Science”, “Keep American Science Great”, “Fund research”, “Parents, Teachers and principals rally in support of the department of education” )
✅ Recruit friends → The more people, the more power.
✅ Record everything → Post photos/videos with #NoKings
🚨 We’re fighting for democracy. Let’s make them listen.

SBAC Mutual Aid Sunday
SBAC Mutual Aid Sunday
2025-06-22 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
3850 Manhattan Beach Blvd, Lawndale, CA 90260, USA
We’re really looking forward to seeing community come out to our next Mutual Aid Sunday at Alondra Park. Find us at our regular spot under the blue tent. Once again we have free community resources like clothes, hygiene kits, PPE, Narcan, Plan B, diapers, sanitizer, zines and more !
We will also be joined by HILL ( Hawthorne - Inglewood - Lawndale - Lennox) Rapid Response, leading a Know Your Rights and Community Defense Workshop. They will be giving away red cards with your rights if you are approached by ICE at home or on the streets. They will also be sharing resources from @chirla_org and @daylaborernetwork, as well as zines to keep our community safe.
If you have seen or heard anything in the cities that HILL Rapid Response is covering reach out to them by phone or email them at the number provided on the third slide.
We have heard about the young boy detained and separated from his family while attending an immigration proceeding. We demand that the South Bay community show up for Martir Garcia Lara and reach out to @torrance_elementary_pta on how to support the family and community that is currently being traumatized by these escalating attacks on immigrant communities.

Help us boost visibility on this post by commenting what YOU would like to see at our next Mutual Aid Sunday!

MAT Bike Project @ RB Public Works & Sustainability Commission
MAT Bike Project @ RB Public Works & Sustainability Commission
2025-06-23 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Redondo Beach City Hall, 415 Diamond St, Redondo Beach, CA 90277, USA
Agenda to be posted: https://redondo.granicusideas.com/meetings
The RB PW&SC will be meeting to learn about the Metro Active Transportation Project Redondo Beach Blvd Corridor which spans RB, Lawndale, Torrance, and LA County to Alondra Park/El Camino College.
- Commission will be considering the 15% design plans for review to pass forward to Council for approval. Currently, the portions of the project in RB will be protected (Class IV lanes and cycle-tracks). However, the portions in Torrance and Lawndale are currently paint-only (Class II lanes) which pose safety concerns.
- It's important they hear from Torrance & Lawndale residents who want to see this project further improved in their jurisdictions for the safest possible project.
- Usually these meetings are very lightly attended so your voice is impactful.
- Provide a 3-minute public comment with your support for the project as a RB, Torrance, or Lawndale resident. Can include specific design requests or general recommendations for "protected bike lanes across the entire corridor."
- Participate in-person at RB City Hall or via Zoom or eComment (link will be added).
To email your comment, contact the Staff Advisor and indicate "Public Comment for PW&SC" in the subject: Lauren Sablan Public Works Department lauren.sablan@redondo.org

2025-06-26 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
2355 Crenshaw Blvd, Torrance, CA 90501, USA #125
This month's South Bay Cities COG Board Meeting has an important item on its agenda to approve funding for the Metro Active Transportation project and various other bike infrastructure projects. This is a simple and high-impact opportunity to tell city representatives you want to see more protected bike lanes and transit improvements in the South Bay.
Torrance & Lawndale officials will be present at this meeting - speak in support of the RB Blvd MAT project and protected bike lanes in your city! Agenda: COG meeting
Comment via: In-person or Zoom registration or via email to natalie@southbaycities.org. Comment is taken at the start of the meeting.
Item 8: Measure M Project Funding
- Lawndale will be approved for $1,648,000 in MSP funds for Local Travel Network at Thursday's at 6 pm. LTN projects in other cities have been mainly related to signage and sharrows, but we'd love to see cities use LTN to fund things like diverters and hard bike infrastructure.
- Redondo is also scheduled to receive $4,000,000 in MSP funds for completion of Metro Active Transportation Cycle 1 – Redondo Beach Blvd Corridor Construction. This is for the full corridor including Lawndale and Torrance portions. Speak on the MAT project and what you'd like to see from your city.
